Within the rainforest there are four layers.
- The Emergent layer- These are the tallest trees. They can grow up to 60 tall.
- The canopy- This is the thickest layer of the rainforest. Most of the animals of the rainforest live here.
- The Understory- This layer contains young, shorter trees and bushes.
- The Forest Floor- ferns and other plants that grow close to the ground are found here.

Teaching Ideas/activites:
After the children have learned about the facts of the rainforest, they
could be placed into groups. Each group would be assigned a heading
eg. animals of the rainforest, plants of the rainforest, the physical
environment and peoples of the environment.
Each group would then have to create a research booklet discussing
their chosen heading.
When they have the booklets completed they could then come
together as a class and feed back all the information they
researched.
Curriculum Linkage:
